It has been an interesting few months for the Benefithousing website, we have brought together more towns and are now producing more information than before. The next step is to provide detailed pages with information about each of the local councils with links to the areas that you need if your are DSS Lettings tenants. These will include links to rent calculators, important documents, enhanced contact information and much, much more.

The vast majority of people are sincere and do not try to cheat the system, there are however some that do and the local councils are getting tough on the suspected cheats. The social security officers have got the powers to access the bank accounts, credit records and other finanical information for people they suspect of trying to fraud the system. The bill will enable dss and council officers to conduct thorough investigations and prosecute any offenders.
The other main aspect to the bill is the two strikes policy which will remove benefit from anyone who is caught and convicted twice within a three year period. Many people do not treat benefit fraud as a serious crime and this is what the government and local authorities are trying to stamp out with their new legislation and powers.
